The summer driver education program is run in conjunction with D.T.S.M. Driving School, a Ministry of Transportation Approved BDE Course Provider. The program combines in-class, at-home and in-car instruction in preparation for the Ontario G2 Driver’s Test. Successful completion of this program allows a reduction of the G1 license driving period and a possible insurance discount (check with your insurance company).

Eligibility:

Open to all secondary school students in the Ottawa-Carleton Region. Students must be at least 16 years of age and have a G1 license prior to July 4, 2017.

Program:

    • 20 hours classroom instruction, July 4 – July 7 inclusive  9:00 am – 3:00 pm daily (includes ½ hour lunch & two 15 minute breaks)
    • 20 hours of group in-car instruction – 10 hours behind-the-wheel and 10 hours of observation (based on groups of 2 students in the car).

Group in-car sessions take place throughout July & August. Students must be available ALL of July and August in order to complete the required hours in a group lesson format. In-car sessions are scheduled anytime during the day, evening up until 10 pm or Saturdays from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm and this schedule is determined between the two students and the instructor. The Driving School will accommodate scheduling for students working summer jobs ONLY.

The Driving School will try to accommodate all in-car sessions starting and ending at the student’s home school if there is sufficient registration. If not, the in-car sessions will start and end at the selected in-class school location.
